A **Dutch identity document** proves identity in situations that accept it. A **residence document** records a person’s residence position. The account may use the DigiD app, SMS verification, a username and password or an identity document for certain privacy-sensitive services. The document does not become a DigiD, a BSN or a rental contract. Its wording, validity and restrictions matter.
